Best Litter Pads for Cats: Five Drawer-Fit Pads Compared
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Details
Litter pads are disposable sheets that sit under the litter, usually in a pull-out drawer, and absorb liquid that seeps through. The best litter pads for a cat are the ones whose size, count and drawer fit match the box you already own. This roundup covers five cat litter pad listings that we read on 22 October 2026. Most of the first page of results for the keyword shows dog pads, so we kept only listings labelled for cats or litter boxes. The listings give counts, sizes and odor wording, but none of them reports a measured result for absorbency or leakage.
Quick answer
- Check the box before the brand. Four listings name a pull-out drawer system, and one names the Breeze cat litter box, which is sold separately.
- Count the pads against how often you change them. The Purina Tidy Cats listing is the only one that gives a change schedule: one pad a week for two cats.
- Read the title and the description together. The PetsWorld multi-cat listing says 25 pads in its title and 50 in its description.
- Treat every odor claim as the maker’s wording. None of the sources we opened measures odor or absorbency.
What the listings say a pad is for
Four of the five listings describe their pads for a pull-out drawer. The Amazon Basics 20 count says its pads are for “a pull-out-drawer litter box system (not included)”, and the 40 count uses the same wording. Both PetsWorld listings say they work in drawer-style boxes, and the 50 count adds that its pads “can also be used in cat carriers during travel.” The Purina Tidy Cats listing is different. It describes pads “for use with the Breeze cat litter box (sold separately)”, so that pad belongs to one specific system.
None of the listings says whether its pad fits a flip-top, hooded or top-entry box. If your box is one of those, the listing does not answer the fit question, so measure the tray or drawer before you order. For a top-entry design, see our top-entry litter pans post.
What a pad does and what it does not do
A pad takes up liquid. It does not replace scooping. The ASPCA page on litter box problems says, “Virtually all cats like clean litter boxes, so scoop and change your cat’s litter at least once a day.” The same page says to “Rinse the litter box out completely with baking soda or unscented soap once a week.” Those lines are about the box and the litter, so the pad adds a layer under the routine rather than changing it.
The listings make a related point in their own words. The Amazon Basics bullets promise “No more scrubbing and scraping litter boxes”, which describes the tray and not the litter. For the full cleaning routine behind a pad, see our guide to cleaning a litter box.
The five listings side by side
The table uses only the figures each listing states. “Not stated” means the listing is silent on that point.
| Listing | Count | Box or system named | Size stated | Odor wording | Scent options |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon Basics, 20 count | 20 | Pull-out-drawer system, not included | 16.9 x 11.4 x 0.1 inches | Helps control unpleasant odors | Fresh, Lemon, Unscented |
| PetsWorld, Pack of 50 | 50 | Drawer-style litter boxes | 16.9 x 11.4 x 0.1 inches | Helps minimize odors | Fresh Scented |
| Purina Tidy Cats Breeze, 8 count | 8 per pack, also a 2-pack option | Breeze cat litter box, sold separately | Not stated | Controls ammonia odor for 7 days for two cats | Lemongrass (bullet) |
| PetsWorld Multi-Cat, Pack of 25 | 25 in title, 50 in description | Drawer-style litter boxes | 16.9 x 11.4 x 0.04 inches | Keeps boxes drier for longer | Fresh Scented |
| Amazon Basics, 40 count | 40 | Pull-out-drawer system, not included | 16.9 x 11.4 x 0.14 inches | Helps control unpleasant odors | Fresh, Lemon, Unscented |
Four of the five listings give 16.9 by 11.4 inches as the pad size. The Purina listing gives no size at all, so the drawer check falls to you for that pad.
Count, change schedule and the arithmetic
A pack lasts as long as its count divided by the pads you change each week. The formula is: weeks covered = pads in pack / pads changed per week.
The Purina listing gives the only change schedule in this set. It says the pads are “designed to last and control ammonia odor for 7 days for two cats.” Taking one pad a week as that figure, an 8-count pack covers one box for 8 / 1 = 8 weeks. That uses the maker’s seven-day period, and the sources we opened do not confirm it.
The PetsWorld multi-cat listing gives two counts. Its title says 25 pads, and its description says “50 super-absorbent gel pads”. If the description is right, the pack is twice the size its title suggests, because 50 / 25 = 2. Until the seller settles the figure, plan with the lower count and count the pads when the pack arrives.
Our planning estimate, which no listing states, assumes one pad per change and a change every two days. On that assumption a 50-pad pack lasts 50 x 2 = 100 days for one box. That is arithmetic on an assumed schedule, not a claim about any product.
The two Amazon Basics cat listings show a simple ratio. The 40 count holds 40 / 20 = 2 times as many pads as the 20 count.
Scent and odor wording
The Amazon Basics pads offer Fresh, Lemon and Unscented options. Both PetsWorld listings are sold as Fresh Scented, and the Purina bullet describes a “bright lemongrass scent”. The listings do not say whether scent changes how well a pad absorbs liquid, so we make no claim about it.
Every listing makes an odor claim. The Amazon Basics bullets say the pads “help control unpleasant odors”, the PetsWorld 25 count says it “keeps litter boxes drier for longer”, and the Purina pad says it controls ammonia odor for seven days for two cats. Those are the makers’ words. None of the sources we opened ranks pads or measures odor, so treat the claims as a starting point for your own checks.

Buying checklist
- Name your box first. Four listings are for a pull-out drawer, and one is for the Breeze box.
- Measure the drawer. Four listings give 16.9 by 11.4 inches as the pad size, and the Purina listing gives none.
- Compare the count in the title with the count in the description, and plan with the lower figure until the seller confirms.
- Decide the change schedule before you buy. Only the Purina listing states one, and it says one week for two cats.
- Pick the scent you want from the options the listing offers.
- Check the current price on Amazon before you order.
- Keep the scoop and the weekly rinse on the schedule the ASPCA page gives.
Mistakes to avoid
- Buying for a box you do not own. Four listings name a pull-out drawer system, and the Purina pad names the Breeze box. The listing that names a system is the one to check against your own box.
- Trusting one count. The PetsWorld multi-cat title and description disagree, 25 against 50, so one figure cannot be planned on without a check.
- Treating the pad as a replacement for scooping. The ASPCA page asks owners to scoop and change the litter at least once a day, and a pad sits under that routine.
- Skipping the drawer rotation. The Purina directions say the drawer can be rotated without touching the pad to extend pad life.
- Buying dog pads for a cat box. The first page of results includes dog pads, which we did not open. The pads in this roundup are the cat and litter box products.
- Reading the seven-day figure as a guarantee. The Purina product description says the pads are “guaranteed to block ammonia odor for one week for two cats when used as directed”. That is the maker’s claim, and the sources we opened do not measure it.
How we chose
We searched Amazon for the keyword “litter pads” and read the first six results on 22 October 2026. Five of the six were cat or litter box listings, and we opened all five. The sixth result was a dog pad, and we excluded it without opening its page. We did not read past the first page, and we did not read litter mats or bed underpads, because those are different products.
Our criteria, in order: the listing names a cat or a litter box; the listing states a pad size, count or box system; the listing gives a count we can use in the arithmetic. All five cat listings passed the first test. Four named a pull-out drawer system, and one named the Breeze box. We did not rank the five by price, ratings or sales rank. The order of the picks follows the search results, and it is not a ranking.
What we could not verify
- Absorbency, leakage and odor. The listings make claims, and the sources we opened do not measure them.
- Fit for boxes other than drawer systems. None of the listings names a flip-top, hooded or top-entry box.
- The PetsWorld multi-cat count. The title says 25 and the description says 50, and the listing does not settle which one ships.
- The weights. The product details give 1.76 ounces for both Amazon Basics counts, 6 pounds for the 50 count, and 3.46 pounds for the 25 count. These do not track the counts, so we do not use them.
- The change schedule for the other pads. Only the Purina listing gives one, and its seven-day figure is the maker’s, for two cats.
- The dog-labelled results. We did not open them, so we say nothing about their fit or performance.
- Materials. The Amazon Basics and PetsWorld bullets name a PE film, and the Purina bullets name no material. The sources we opened do not cover pad materials.

FAQ
Do litter pads replace scooping?
No. A pad takes up liquid under the litter, and the ASPCA page still asks owners to scoop and change the litter at least once a day. The pad is one part of the routine, and none of the five listings describes it as a substitute for scooping.
Will a litter pad fit any litter box?
Not from the listings we read. Four say the pad is for a pull-out drawer system, and the Purina pad is designed for the Breeze box, which is sold separately. Check that your box is one of those systems, and measure the drawer.
How often should I change a litter pad?
The Purina listing gives the only schedule: the pad is easy to change out once a week, with an odor period of 7 days for two cats. The other four listings do not state a schedule, so the timing for those pads is a question for your own box and your own cats.
Can I use a dog pad in a cat litter box?
The five listings we read are cat or litter box products. The first page of results includes dog pads, which we did not open, and the sources we opened do not cover dog pads in cat boxes. If you try one, check the box it is labelled for before you put it under the litter.
Which scent should I pick?
The Amazon Basics pads come in Fresh, Lemon and Unscented, the PetsWorld pads are Fresh Scented, and the Purina bullet describes a lemongrass scent. The listings do not say which scent a cat prefers, so choose by your own household preference.
How many packs should I buy?
Divide the pack count by the pads you change each week. For the Purina 8-count pack at one pad a week, 8 / 1 = 8 weeks for one box. If you change one pad a week, a 40-count pack covers one box for 40 / 1 = 40 weeks. Those figures assume the change rate, and only the Purina listing states one.
Bottom line
If your box is a pull-out drawer, choose the pack whose count fits your change schedule, and read the count in the title and in the description before you order. If you own a Breeze box, the Purina pad is the one the listing writes for it. Scoop and rinse the box on the schedule the ASPCA page gives, and treat every odor claim as the maker’s wording.
